Akagawaonsen

Akagawa Onsen’s spring water is an unusual type of spring water containing both hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide gas and is rare amongst Japanese onsens. With a slight acidic spring quality of around pH 4.9–5.2, the water contains a rich variety of minerals including calcium, magnesium, and sodium in a delicate balance that acts gently on the skin.

The water also contains a large amount of sulfate ions, so while it has powerful effects, it is also soft on the skin. Moreover, since the hot springs are also carbonic hot springs, they contain a large amount of hydrogen carbonate ions, which are said to have strong cleansing effects. Thus, Spaju onsen water assists in the creation and maintenance of beautiful skin, to the delight of guests. Akagawa Onsen’s high-functioning spring water truly provides a nature-given balance that is kind to the skin.

Rich in metasilicic acid, which is essential for creating and maintaining beautiful skin

Metasilicic acid is a natural moisturizing ingredient found in most onsens. A skin-beautifying ingredient that boosts the skin’s metabolism to produce smooth skin, metasilicic acid is the reason why your skin feels so moist after you have been soaking in an onsen bath.

Metasilicic acid is also an ingredient of skin-moisturizing cosmetics and moisturizing bath salts and can be expected to have the effect of enhancing ceramides in the skin.

Metasilicic acid has skin-beautifying effects in concentrations of 50 mg/L of wellspring water or higher, and onsen water with concentrations of 100 mg or higher is called skin-beautifying water.

The metasilicic acid concentration of Akagawaonsen is an amazing 192.6 mg/L

Spring Quality That’s Good for Soaking in, Drinking, or Applying to the Skin

Because Akagawa Onsen spring water is mildly cold spring water, it is easy to drink, and the hotel has even placed a drinking fountain next to the entrance. It is easier to absorb onsen ingredients by drinking them rather than through the skin, and so if you expect even greater spring water effects, it is said that you should drink the water rather than soaking in it. The wellspring water is said to have reliable spring quality, providing the effect of emulsifying fat and expelling toxins that have built up in the body
